All You Need to Know About Essential Oil Diffusers.

Updated: May 21, 2021

Essential Oil Diffusers are not just aroma diffusers. They are incredible tools that soothe your space, either it's your home or office while inducing some amazing benefits.

They have long been used in aromatherapy treatments as they help to cleanse and promote pacifying spirits around you. Although they are usually used for either aesthetic or therapeutic purposes, surprisingly, they also have some fantastic health benefits! With essential oil diffusers, you get to control what oils are dispersed in the air, with a controlled set timer and even a groovy light to create an ambience. If you want to take a more active role in your own health and prefer a natural and proven method, in that case, purchasing an essential oil diffuser is a great choice.

Here are some precautions to consider before buying essential oil diffusers:

Before buying any essentials oils, check to see if they are truly what they say they are. This means that apart from original and health-promoting essential oils, the markets are packed with synthetic essential oils. These oils do not provide any health benefits. Instead, their consistent use may cause liver toxicity.

A good tactic to check this is to see if there is a certified label on the product before buying them. For instance, an organic soil associated label or, if they are retailed in a trusted store like Holland and Barretts. Do not be fooled by cheap deal prices that come in a set of 6 for £5 or even £10. You will not reap the amazing benefits of real essential oils by merely inhaling synthetic ones.

Another precaution is to be careful if you suffer from any respiratory defects or prone to headaches; some oils would not benefit you. It would be great if you seek medical advice before you use essential oils.

Is Essential Oils Safe Around My Children?

Apparently, it is safe, but I would also be precautious of diffusing oils around kids who are six months and younger. I read an article written by the NYTimes in 2019, and they quoted,

"For older babies and children, it's reasonably safe to diffuse certain oils such as cedarwood, ginger or sweet orange for up to an hour while monitoring your child", said Dr Esparham.

Another article from HealthLine also suggests,

" When trying out a new essential oil around your baby, test a small amount of each new oil in a vaporiser for an hour to ensure that no irritation occurs".

If you still have any concerns, I would suggest talking to a doctor before using essential oils around your baby.

Are Essential Oils Safe Around My Pets?

Yes, the only pet that is affected by essentials oils is cats. They lack the P450 cytochrome, which means the liver cannot break down certain substances. According to the PDSA, the majority of essential oils are toxic to cats. However, an article from the Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center explains,

"If you diffuse oils in your home, it should not cause a problem for your cat, as the oil used in a diffuser is highly diluted... However, you should never leave your cat confined to space where oils are being diffused".

So basically, you can use diffuse essential oils just as long they are not in the room. Essential oils that least affect your cats are lavender, copaiba, helichrysum, and frankincense. The Incredible Benefits Of Essential Oils Diffusers:

Promotes Good Sleep Eliminates Odor Elevates Mood Reduces Stress & Anxiety Repels Insect Increases Energy Boosts Immune System Controls Appetite Creates a Healthy Environment Boosts Memory & Concentration

Pain Relief Improves Respiratory Health Saves Money ( lasts longer than air fresheners and healthier too)

As a holistic therapist, I personally like to use them in all of my massage treatments. My clients love walking into the room with a pleasant smell. It creates a great ambience throughout the treatment. I also enjoy diffusing through yoga stretches and meditation. I decided to check out a few on Amazon and picked out some professional, classy and artistic diffusers (some are humidifiers) to share with you. I included them at the bottom of this article, so click on the picture for more information if you like any. These products are from Amazon UK.
