What is Shiatsu? Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese bodywork therapy that helps the body restore its natural balance and healing ability. It promotes deep relaxation, eases muscle tension, calms the mind, and supports nervous system regulation. Treatments are done fully clothed on a futon, using techniques like stretching, palming, gentle pressure, and rotations to rebalance body and mind. How Shiatsu works Meaning “finger pressure,” Shiatsu is rooted in Chinese medicine and works with the body’s meridian system to encourage the smooth flow of Qi (vital energy). Through acupressure, stretching, and gentle movement, Shiatsu enhances circulation, releases blockages, and restores overall wellbeing. Often described as “acupuncture without needles. What to expect from a treatment? The treatment takes place on a comfortable padded mat/futon, on the floor with the receiver fully clothed. No oil is used during the treatment. Each session may include an initial chat with the practitioner to understand the aim of the treatment. You will be asked to wear comfortable clothes, and provided with a blanket and cushions to feel cosy and warm.
